CDFW South Coast Region Inland Fisheries update
The Program:
Abstract: The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) conducts monitoring and management of inland fisheries throughout the state. CDFW’s South Coast Region which includes Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties will be the focus of this talk. Recent surveys have shown some positive developments while drought and wildfires have proven detrimental. Highlights will include recent translocations, drought monitoring, fire impacts, angler survey box data summaries, and invasive species removal.
This presentation will be broad and will cover non-game species as well as rainbow trout work.
Russell's Background:
Russell Barabe began his fisheries career in 2001 working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The four years spent here cemented his love of fisheries and led to work for the USGS in Twisp Washington and Klamath Falls Oregon. From there Russ headed over to Mississippi State University to obtain his Masters in Fisheries Management. He currently works for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in the Heritage and Wild Trout Program and has been with the dept since 2009.
