SDFF is proud to welcome anyone who is interested in the great sport of fly fishing and all of the enjoyable activities that come from associating with others who enjoy the sport. Here is a great story from Bill Stroud's original TWIW column that shows how this came to be.

The club was initially known as the San Diego Fly Fishermen's Club. It did not want or would not admit women at that time.

Bill & Eileen Stroud had wanted to join, but could not until 1975 when the city of San Diego mandated that in order to maintain a club on city property or use their facilities, both sexes had to be admitted.

From that time until today, we have enjoyed tremendous growth as the San Diego Fly Fishers.

Old habits die hard, but all of us who now enjoy the benefits of SDFF owe a debt of gratitude to Bill and Eileen Stroud for encouraging a change that was a major factor in the club's growth.
